Milt Stark 1921 - 2016

Milt Stark, president of PRMDIA from 1999 - 2010, passed away in 2016. It was expected but then again totally unexpected that this vibrant community leader would one day no longer be a living presence in our lives. His legacy, however will never leave us. His passion for learning about and protecting the natural world will continue to inspire for generations to come; generations that will be able to enjoy lovely lands where nature endures due to his tireless efforts.

This photo was taken in December of 2009. Milt was in the state park that was so special to him, Arthur B. Ripley Desert Woodland, helping to build the Rare Juniper Trail. Integral to the interpretive pamphlet that he wrote for the trail was research concerning the California juniper that he conducted over a number of years with the help of PRMDIA Board Member, Mary Wilson.

He began the pamphlet for the trail with these words that reflect his love for this special place, "The best part of this trail is experiencing the sights, smells and sounds of the Joshua tree/ California juniper woodland, and the feeling that you are a long way from any human development."
