Joshua Trees at Ripley Desert Woodland.

Bud - leaves have been "pruned" of their sharp tips and partially eaten. Leaves that are lower to the ground  provide food for jack rabbits. Leaves higher off the ground have probably been used as a food source for desert woodrats.
